I heard a rumor from the Mission Team that we, Phos Church, are headed back to Charleston in 2012!  2011 was fantastic and I'm already looking forward to 2012.  I got this a few days ago from Jeff Monnin and it's powerful good stuff to remind us all of how important going is.  So, read this and enjoy.

Peeling Paint

In narrow halls

Scratched walls and scraped trim,

They lie, living alone amongst others.

Abandoned relics of wartimes, organized crime, and big bands.

Imprisoned by neglect, and age, and screen doors

Most left to die.

Ruthie sits by a window and hears the sun,

Wrinkled desert-like skin, marred with age spots

Not having felt its naked warmth for 11 years.

Left by family, sold to the home, now she watches paint peel.

Scrapers, brushes, cans of paint and directed “angels” appear

Breathing life back into dingy, stained, and aged walls

That fare much better than age scarred hands and twisted knuckles.

Fresh paint, fresh hope, needed conversation and faith.

As a coastal storm, the angels sweep in with a song and leave their mark.

The dwellers say farewell, dream of another embrace

As they wait for the new paint to peel.

As a tide pushes the shell to shore,

Then gently coaxes it back to the sea womb,

They come and they go.

The relics wait for angels…

They wait to die.

Who will come first?
