When Good Men Get Angry small

The leader within you isn't waiting to be born, only awakened. All it takes is vision--a Blow Your Socks off Vision. Exactly the kind of vision you'd expect to get when you follow Jesus of Nazareth. In this book Bill shows you how following the greatest leader of all time can awaken your own leadership abilities. Uncovering unexpected insights from Jesus' ministry, Bill gives you a close look at the character traits and practical competencies of a true leader. Whether you're leading your family, a committee, a church, a team, or a Fortune 500 company, this book tells you what it takes to Awaken Your Character and Awaken Your Skills.

A life of purity flows from your true identity as a son of God. As you grow in your understanding of that single reality, your thoughts and actions will be transformed. Slowly you'll find yourself acting in a way that's consistent with the new man, the good man, that God has made you.

I'm reminded of the story of a college student who carried around ten extra pounds, never played a sport, and enjoyed eating more than competing against other guys. He never thought of himself as athletic and never aspired to play sports.

One day, as he walked across campus, the track coach approached him and asked, "What's your name?"

"Jeremiah Johnson."

"Anybody ever tell you that you're a runner?"

"No. Never."

"Well, it's true," the coach said. "I can tell by the way you walk. How about letting me clock you this afternoon?"

"I don't think so," Jeremiah said.

Unwilling to take no for an answer, the coach persisted until Jeremiah agreed to show up for track practice. As he entered the locker room after school he felt as out of place as a mule at a horse race. Chiding himself for agreeing to the coach's request, he slipped on some shorts and running shoes and walked outside to the track. After stretching and jogging a few laps, the coach called him over.

As a few of the other sprinters watched, Jeremiah surprised himself, and everyone else, except the coach, by running some impressive times. The coach called him aside and said, "Hey, what did I tell you, Jeremiah? If you'll let me work with you I think you could become one of the best runners in the country."

"The country?" Jeremiah asked.

"You heard me," the coach said. "You've got the stride and quick twitch muscles that nobody can coach. You just need to get in shape and learn how to leave the blocks."

Over the next year, Jeremiah worked hard. In fact, he worked harder than he had ever worked at anything in his life. And it paid off, because he won the conference championship in the 100 meters.

A week before the national meet he was at a fraternity party when the best-looking girl in the house approached him and offered Jeremiah a plate of Doritos and a cold beer. "This is for you," she said.

In that moment he had to make a quick decision --and the decision would be based on how he viewed himself. If he saw himself as a bundle of nerves and unsatisfied appetites, he'd take the beer and hope he'd get the girl too. But he didn't see himself that way, and so he looked at the girl, smiled, and turned down her offer.

"Why? Don't you believe in drinking?" she asked.

"Oh, that's not why I'm saying no."

"Then what's the reason?"

"I'm a runner," he said.

When a man sees himself as a runner, it's easy to turn down a plate of Doritos and a cold beer. Why? Because runners don't eat or drink anything that will slow them down. It's just not who they are.

Similarly, the more you see yourself as a son of God, a new man, a good man, a man indwelt by God's Spirit, the more you'll think and act like a new creation. The less you'll find yourself attracted to attitudes and actions that are inconsistent with your new identity. But as a good man, you'll still be tempted. And now you know how to handle temptation in a way that will bring victory --one temptation at a time. If you stumble, you know how to get back up again, with the help of a friend, and move forward as a son of God.

Locking arms,

Bill

Wanna have a great marriage? Read this and take action NOW....

One of the toughest places to live out our faith is in our marriages, but it can be done.  It should be done.  It must be done!

When the Holy Spirit takes center stage in your marriage and we learn to follow Christ there there is music like none other from the car rides to the ball-game to dinner-time to the bed and back to everyday living.  It's possible to have a great marriage. BUT, it takes work and it takes sacrificial service for/to one another.  I received this email from a friend earlier and it's a powerful piece that will help you take your marriage to the next level.

For those who want to go further I'd encourage you to click the link at the bottom of the page and dig into a treasure chest of helpful articles and consider going over to the '5 Love Languages' website from the resource page and learn more there as well.

I'm cheering for your Marriage to THRIVE!

Serve well,
Jeff

The Road to Greatness by Dr. Gary Chapman

We hope you will take time to read this article.  It is so true and something we all need to be reminded of from time to time.  We also encourage you to do the activities he recommends.

"The key that unlocks the door to a happy marriage is learning to serve your spouse!  Most of us admit that we entered marriage with lofty visions of how happy our spouses would make us.  When they did not perform up to our expectations, we experienced disappointment, hurt, and anger.  So, we made verbal demands designed to make them feel guilty.

"Have you ever said this, 'I don't understand how you could do that.  You know how it makes me feel.'  With such statements we try to manipulate their behavior.  We try to get what we want.  This approach is opposite of what Jesus taught.  'Whoever wants to be great must be your servant.'  Is this not the theme of the Christian life?  Learning to serve your spouse is the true road to greatness.

"In a good marriage, there is no king or queen shouting commands, only servants looking for ways to meet the needs of others.  Jesus said to His followers, 'You know that those who are rulers of the gentiles lord it over them...Not so with you. Instead whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant."

"History illustrates this  truth.  The truly great men and women of any age are those who serve others.  Thus, the greatest husbands are the greatest servants.  The wife who finds greatest fulfillment is the wife you learns to serve.  Let me make it practical.  Make a list of the ways you served your spouse yesterday.  Based on this list, 'How great are you?'

Our society has trained us to be assertive, not to be servants.  Servant-hood is not a favorite topic for semianrs, though it ought to be, for it is the only road to greatness.  Here's an idea:  Make a list of several things you know that your spouse would like for you to do.  Do one of them today, and another tomorrow.  Your spouse will in most cases notice your efforts and respond with appreciation. . .or possible bewilderment.  Either way, you're on the right track to becoming great.

Keith got home yesterday. It was a rough walk up the stairs but he did it!   Very thankful Robbie was here to help him. Getting around very well. I exercised him today and wore him out. He is being a great patient.  Learning to depend on others which is very new for him.     I love to serve him and so does his mom.
I am struggling with pneumonia.  I felt so good Tuesday and managed all day. I thought it was behind me.   Wednesday, the dr. said I still have it.   I hope I am getting better.  I will find out Tuesday when i go to the doctor again.  I was scared one day when my oxygen level went down.  Felt faint.  Opened God's word to Isaiah 12:1-3.  I had such a peace pass over me.  I don't have to fear anything happening  in my life.  I can trust God,he is my strength, he is my salvation, my joy. Praise God!
Miss being at church.  Hopefully next week.
Thanks for your prayers and support
Jennie
