Kids Singing This Sunday

Hi there!

This Sunday, the kids will be singing a couple songs at the beginning of our service at 10.  While we have practiced the songs the last couple of weeks during Kid Time, we hope that all the kids who can be there this Sunday can do two last things to prepare:

• Come to the kids room at OCHS at 9:30.  We will practice, talk about the morning and then, at 9:50, parents can pick up their kids so they can sit with their families at the beginning of the service.

• And... while we hope that kids will remember the lyrics from our practice time, it doesn't hurt to review!  Could you have a couple family worship times at home this week to learn the songs and talk about what the words mean?  The kids will be singing the words below from each piece.  Here are the lyrics and a YouTube link for practicing at home!

Children of God ()

We are the saints,
We are the children,
We've been redeemed,
We've been forgiven,
We are the sons and daughters of our God!

Greatly To Be Praised ()

We lift our eyes up, behold the Son
Lift our voices, and sing as one,
Hallelujah, our God reigns!

Thank you!

I wanted him to have as wide an array of tools at his disposal as possible ...

"I wanted him [the director] to have as wide an array of tools at his disposal as possible.  And I didn't want him to have to tone down or pull back on what he wants to do with the play."
                                                        Daniel Radcliffe

You know him as the star of Harry Potter movies and he said this about his willingness to learn how to dance and work out in the dance studio for 3 hours a day to prepare for his role in a soon to be released play, "How to Succeed in Business".

What if we, as Christ followers had this same sort of mindset about preparing our hearts, our minds and our bodies to be used as fully as possible by God for His purposes and plans in the world?

Lent & Ash Wednesday ... some things to consider as Easter 2011 approaches....

For many in the Christian world today is beginning of 'Lent' and is known as 'Ash Wednesday' ... I think Wikipedia does a pretty good job of laying out the history of both so I'll trust that you can follow the links provided to learn more if you want / need to.  Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of a season or reflection & contemplation & repentance as Christians all over the world are reminded again of the power of Christ displayed on that first Easter.

Here's the crux of Lent and Ash Wednesday ... 'repent' from your sins and give something up to contemplate Christ's work on the Cross & Resurrection as Easter approaches.  I'm wondering would you be willing to repent from today?  Would you be willing to give something up in order to have more time & energy to focus on what Jesus has done for you in the days ahead?

If you are willing I'd suggest one of the following ideas as ways to go further with Christ in the days ahead...

1.  If you're on the MONVEE journey with us dig into your RoadMap and give us 'something' like a favorite show to have more time to contemplate Christ via the MONVEE RoadMap activities you've set up.  [all Phos Church attenders are welcomed on the MONVEE journey & you can contact Len Jaggers to learn how to get started. ]

2.  If you don't want to participate in the MONVEE journey right now that's okay (or if you are not a part of the Phos Church family)  ... what about committing to praying the Lord's Prayer daily like we discussed last Sunday at Phos and then committing to Reading the Gospel of Luke contemplatively in the days between now and Easter?  If you really want to reap the benefits I'd suggest you keep a journal of what you experience as you dig into the story of Jesus.  A journal can be as simple as writing your prayers and your impressions about the Scriptures that you're reading on any given day.  Again, ramping up to do the reading and possibly journaling will 'cost' you something that you give up for Lent.  What will you give up?  What activity will you let go of between now and Easter to give you more time with Christ?

So, when you see someone with an 'Ash Cross' on their forehead today you'll know what it means and perhaps you'll choose to repent of being too busy to enjoy time with Christ in the days ahead.

My grandma

Hey Phos family,

Just wanted to let you all know that my Grandma went to be with Jesus tonight. It was expected and she was so sick, it is very much a blessing. But, it is still hard. So please pray me and my family through the coming days. Thanks for your continual love and support.

Hi Jeff,

I have had a few people ask about the recent Be a Match drive that we
did at Phos about 2 weeks ago.  Here are the results of the drive with
Yum and Phos participating along with Patrick’s gratitude for our
assistance.
Heartfelt Thanks,
Kris

Hello,
I wanted to pass along the results of the “Be the Match” bone marrow
registry drive that our wonderful company sponsored early last week.
We were able to get 282 people to join the registry and had a total of
$2790.00 (after the Yum matching) donated to help with the lab
processing fees.  That will cover the total cost to get everyone on
the registry. This
is by far the largest registry drive I have been involved in to date.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to volunteer at the drives and
to get on the registry. It not only showed Karen and I (again) what
great people we have supporting us but  your personal dedication in
supporting this
wonderful life saving foundation.
So many people deserve special mention, but I am afraid I might miss
some one, and that would not be fair, but for that I say THANK YOU!
Thanks again, we hope and pray one will be the one to give Karen the
gift of life!

Sharon Kelley's sister Michelle

I just received a call from Terry Kelley letting us know that Sharon's sister Michelle is headed to Baptist East to have an emergency surgery. It was scheduled, but after a doctor's appointment this morning they determined that they needed to do it now. Please pray for Michelle as she has the surgery and goes through the recovery process.

Thanks,

meredith
