TEENS: DEMOLITION ON SUNDAY

Teens:

This week, Jeff presented me with an INCREDIBLE way to get you all activated at Phos and owning what is happening with Phos.  We have to tear down some walls... i.e. demolition chaos.  He asked me if I'd like to let the teens lead the charge in this and have the honors of "initiating" the remodel.  (I don't know if you can call it initiating, though, since it is actually going to be smashing :) rather than building.)

So, please plan on coming to 4200 at 6 PM Sunday with your teen groups and check Jeff's post on this blog (click HERE) to read about what to wear/bring and then, SPREAD WORD.  This is going to be quite the memory and an incredible experience for all involved.

And lastly: dinner.  Originally, we had planned on a taco dinner, so we are going to stick to it.  BRING SOMETHING YOU HAD PLANNED TO BRING, OR EVEN BETTER: BRING A COUPLE DOLLARS TO DONATE AND A 2 LITER.

And, we'll tear it up.  Literally.  This is going to be a mess. :)

See you all this weekend!

Workday at 4200 scheduled for this Saturday - October 8th

This is gonna rock so I sure hope you can make it out on Saturday for all or part of the action!  Jeff

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: <jaggers1@insightbb.com>

Good afternoon friends – if you are receiving this email, you signed up with me at the welcome center to work on the new building this Saturday, October 8th, or have expressed interest in helping with construction on an info. card, or I think you might want to know about this.  I’m touching base with you to let you know in a bit more detail what we will be doing on Saturday.

What we will be doing:

First, we are going to FEED YOU with an amazing breakfast starting at 7:30.  There will be plenty of protein, carbs, and caffeine to get you going, so just roll out of bed, put on your work clothes and head on over to 4200.  The sooner we get started, the sooner we will be finished, and you’ll hopefully still have plenty of Saturday left to do what you normally do.  After breakfast, we will have a short devotional provided by my hubby – Len.

These are the tasks that we are planning to tackle after breakfast:
  1. Paint the fellowship hall and maybe part of the foyer, depending on time and number of coats it takes to cover the walls.
  2. Sand and stain the cabinetry in front of the kitchen, in the nursery, and in the preschool room.
  3. Deep clean several areas of the building including some of the preschool room, children’s room, and kitchen.
  4. Organize and inventory kitchen and storage room to the left of stage.
  5. Landscape the Centerfield Drive side of the building.  The gravel is getting moved back from the building this week, so we’ll be ready to plant some shrubbery, flowers, and put down a nice layer of mulch.
  6. Take out some of the old, overgrown landscaping on the front of the building.
  7. Apply Round-up to all the areas of the parking lot that are being invaded by grass.
  8. Paint and recover some of the worship center chairs.
We will break up into work groups and hopefully have everything detailed out so you will know exactly what needs to be done.

What you need to bring:

Wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or painted.  Wear closed toe shoes such as tennis shoes or work shoes.  NO FLIP FLOPS.
If you have paint and gardening supplies that you would like to use, please bring them.  I will buy roller covers and other supplies, but if we don’t have to use them, I’ll be able to return them and get our money back to use for something else down the road.

Items we would like to borrow:
Chainsaw
Small Air Compressor (like a pancake compressor)
shovels
rakes
painting supplies (roller tray, rollers, brushes)
Chain to use with taking out old shrubbery

Does this sound like a lot?  Well that’s because it is - but I’ve seen you guys at work, so I know what you are like when you set your mind to something. We may not accomplish everything and that is okay, but we are going to give it a try.

Please forward this on to anyone you think might be interested in helping.  Remember, teens, this day could count for Beta hours or other community service hours!

Can’t wait for Saturday!  Email me with questions.

Love you all – Mary Ruth

Tear those WALLS DOWN!!

I'm so excited that we're ready to start the renovation process at 4200! You have a couple of chances to dive in and help it happen coming up.

First of all, this Saturday, October 8 you can join us to begin the process.  The details will be posted on the Phos News Blog in just a bit, but the basic idea is that breakfast will be served at 7:30 AM and you should come dressed to dive in and work hard!  It's a great way to build friendships.

Secondly, you can join Jeff at 4200 on Monday evening October 10 to 'tear down those walls' and we'll remove some of the walls that we're needing to at 4200.  We'll have some sort of dinner and water/soft-drinks available so all you need to do is show up dressed for action and ready to work!

To participate in either of these events you should wear old clothes that you don't intend to wear much anymore!
  • Closed-toe shoes.
  • Leather work gloves if you have em -- we'll have a few pair on hand for you to use. (pun intended)
  • Safety glasses -- again, we'll have our eyes on a few pair of these that you can use as well.
  • Sledge hammer / claw hammer / pry bar

[ The Teens get the honor of taking the first swing at it on Sunday evening at 6 PM  Adults can join Jeff on Monday from 6 to 9 PM ]

If we need more days I'll let you know via the Phos News Blog and we may add Thursday and or Friday next week.

Bonnie Arvin Prayer Update

Many of you know Bonnie Arvin and what a vibrant worshiper of Jesus she is!  Phos is blessed to have Bob and Bonnie on this journey with us.  Yesterday Bonnie had a follow up visit related to her cancer and the news is hard.  Bonnie has just a little while longer to worship with us before she'll join the Grand Worship of Heaven.  So, Bob and Bonnie are asking that we pray for their strength in the days ahead.  They trust Jesus, they love God and they are embracing this hard road with a ton of grace.  So, join me in praying for, encouraging and loving on Bob and Bonnie, Mike, Lisa, Lucas, Chloe and Benny in the days ahead.

Fields Of Faith

Calling all middle and high schoolers!

Wednesday, October 12, from 7 - 8 PM, students from across the country will unite on athletic fields in their community to hear fellow students share their testimonies and challenge each other to live out their faith in Jesus Christ.  Your classmates will be sharing their stories and the evening will also feature a testimony from a former NFL player, Carl Brasley.  The "Fields Of Faith" event in Oldham County will be at SOHS on the football field (if it rains, meet in the gym)... bring your friends!

Hope you can make it!

Bible Scholars I need a little help ....

I'm preparing this week's message centered on the passage found in Acts 8:26-40 and I could use a little research help if you're into digging into your Bible and doing that sort of thing.

1.  How many times does the word 'go' appear in the NIV version of the Bible -- latest edition
2.  What, if anything, do we know about the Eunich in this passage?
3.  What do we know about 'Candace'?
4.  What was life like in Ethiopia at that point in time?
5.  Any other 'notes of interest' and 'color commentary' you could add to this would be useful as I prepare.

Here's the challenge you only have a few hours as I'm attempting to get the basic outline into Meredith for Sermon notes by Tuesday afternoon. So... start your engines and send me direct emails with whatever you may find .... jeff@phoschurch.com .... I'm certainly not guaranteeing that what you send will make the cut, but it might!

thanks

Richard Talley's father died this morning at about 6 AM at St Mary Hospital in South Louisville

Richard's dad died this morning peacefully.  Richard was there alone with him when he passed away.  Arrangements are being made this morning and I'll update the Phos News Blog when I know more.

Let's dive in here and love on Richard & Becca and Gracie in the days ahead.  I know you will because that's one of the things that makes Phos Church so fantastic!
