Prayer Request from Charleston

This is a prayer request sent via facebook by Amie Heath from the Dream Center in North Charleston:

Hey Phos Family! We need your prayers for a family you might remember if you served with us on VBS. There are three of the kids that came: Sergio, Irza & Lindsey. Their stepfather was hit on Saturday night while walking across the street by a a hit and run driver. He was banged up pretty bad and in stable condition in ICU. Please pray for his healing and provision for their family. He was the only one working in their household. The Dream Center is in action to take care of their mom, Nancy and the kids while he is in the hospital. Just getting as many around us that can lift them up in prayer.

Thanks!

Food for Adele

Here's some information for anyone looking for a way to help Adele, a fellow Phos-er that was injured this past week playing softball (our church team) and had surgery last Wednesday. She'll be off her feet for awhile, so we'd like to help provide meals for her for the next several weeks until she is back on her feet again.

A care calendar has been set up for Adele.
To sign up to provide a meal go to carecalendar.org
Her login number is: 117238C
The password is: 1772

Follow instructions as directed to sign up on the day you want to bring the meal.
If possible when you bring supper, if you could also bring her a little something for breakfast and lunch the next day that would be great!!! If you would like to bring fast food or a meal from a restaurant that is great as well. Email Erin Aberli or Theresa Rucker Stewart for Adele's cell phone number/address.

Thanks,

Meredith

Please pray for my friend, Tommy Simpson ....

Not long after Julie and I came to Crestwood we fell in love with the 'Simpsons'! Not the ones on, TV, but the ones who served alongside us for many years at Crestwood Baptist Church. Tommy Simpson is facing a very serious medical situation and is in Baptist Hospital East. Of course his family, Barbara, Scott, and Heather and Hope all struggle alongside him. Would you pray for them as they battle? Thanks,
Jeff Fuson

Mission failed... Sort of

Kimberly gives us some great perspective here.  Enjoy!  Thanks Kimberly.

Subject: Re: Mission failed... Sort of

Jeff, here is the version I revised. Use as you see fit! Thanks!

I went on this trip sincerely hoping that I could make a difference. I went hoping that someone would see a light in me through my hard work and that I could simply pay forward all the blessings God has given me. I have to say, I think I failed miserably!

The ladies I served on this trip were the ones who were ministering to ME! Not the other way around. I had the fortunate opportunity to spend quite a bit of time with Miss Viola and some with Leslie when she came to visit on Thursday. My conversations with them are ones I will never forget.

To keep this short and simple let me put it this way, their faith is strong... perhaps stronger than mine! They KNEW we would show up because they KNEW that God was bigger than the problems they faced. Some time ago they both gave their concerns over to our faithful Father and they had the faith  that He would deliver!

  Isaiah 40:31 says: "
But those who trust in the LORD for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak. ( GNT)

I know that everyone who served these two families did in fact help renew their strength
and It was a joy to watch their spirits rise as the work was completed, but it was all because they first trusted the Lord for help.

This is a lesson that I have to take to heart.  I spend countless hours needlessly worrying about one thing or another. Things I have no control over. Even when I SAY I have turned my concerns over to God... I still fret and worry, and my troubles don't even compare to theirs. Leslie's daughter donated a kidney to save her dad's life and Viola was fighting bone cancer; yet they were able to completely turn their concerns over to God and TRUSTED that He would deliver.

Another thing I noticed was how frequently Viola and Leslie stopped to give thanks for the blessings that were bestowed upon them. When Leslie first saw the renovations made to her house the first thing she said  was, "Glory be to God." In the midst of the hardships that these wonderful ladies face they NEVER lost faith that their every need would be taken care of and they immediately thanked our savior once the blessings were bestowed upon them! Every blessing we receive comes directly from our Father, yet how often do we stop to give thanks? I know that for me, it's not nearly often enough!

So, I kinda suck at this mission thing. I think the tables were supposed to be the other way around.

I learned so much from these two incredible women. They  ministered to me in a way that I hope  I never forget!
If Leslie and Viola in the midst of their lives, governed by poverty, violence, and illness can turn EVERYTHING over to our faithful Lord I think I can certainly strive to do the same. Thanks for this amazing experience and taking me along!

Just wanted to give you an update on Adelle. She broke her tibia and fibia tonight as well as dislocated her foot/ankle. She is going to have surgery sometime wednesday at Baptist Northeast in LaGrange. She's pretty sore and worried about missing work so keep her in your prayers. I'll let  everyone know as soon as I learn any more. Thanks.

Hey everybody,

Just a reminder that we have a game tonight at 7:30! Please give me a heads up if you think you will be there so we will know how many people to expect. With the mission trip and all we want to give a heads up to the other team if we're not going to have enough. Thanks, hope to see everyone tonight!

Hey Nate,
This week should be the last teen event, so unless there are any after church activities that might work after this weekend if everyone else is down.

Another option is to arrive at the park an hour early and practice there (I'm not familiar with the layout of the place. Was there an empty field available?). Even if there is no field, grass works just fine to warm up throwing and even hitting if there is ample space. That might be rough on our double header games though.
Until May 30th(last day of school in Jeff Co.) I have a lot going on, but I can do practice just about any evening. In the summer, I'm available anytime.
