Sermon Note Card for Sunday, August 12 at Phos Community Church

I'm posting the 'guts' of the Sermon Note Card for Tomorrow so that you can prayerfully prepare and read ahead if you'd like.  Tomorrow's message is one that you'll simply have to experience to really get the full impact, but opening up your Bible and doing this work as a Bible Study ahead of time will multiply the effectiveness of our time together tomorrow.  So, come ready!  Goliath lost his head over this one!

You'll leave ready to face the Giants of New School Year, major life transitions, job challenges, job hunting, busted relationships, cancer, death and more.  Join us for worship and gear up for the challenges ahead.

See you at 4200 Centerfield Drive tomorrow at 9 or 10:30.
peace,
Jeff Fuson

Roll the Dice!

1 Samuel 17 New International Version (NIV)

David and Goliath -- Lessons for Giant Killers

You Gotta Roll the Dice when your turn comes.
[and you never know when your time is gonna come!]

You’re gonna play the way that you practice.
Elevate your practice sessions.

Treat the mundane like it’s training for your mission -- because it is.
Practice greatness daily.
If you’re a shepherd then kill those lions and bears!
Ephesians 6:5-8 ‘Work like you’re working for God.”

You become a champion in the ‘off-season’.
What are you doing when no-one is looking?
Are you preparing while others are resting?
It’s those who work while others are resting who gain the edge.

You gotta play your way.

You gotta choose who you’re gonna listen to.
Your family isn’t likely to believe that you can ______________.
Others will try to protect you like Saul tried to protect David.
You’re too __________.
The enemy will mock your dream.  Bank on it.

When it’s time to fight -- RUN toward the battle line!

Fight to Win.  GO ALL OUT.  GIVE IT ALL YOUI’VE GOT.  PLAY TO WIN!  ROLL THE DICE!
What if David had ‘half-thrown’ that rock?
What if he played ‘not to loose’?
You gotta risk being totally embarrassed or made a fool of if you’re gonna win
big.

Thought Conditioners

Lies         Voice of Truth

I am powerless. I have His Spirit in me to give me Power, Love and Self-Discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7

I can’t. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13

I’m not sure. I am confident of this that He who began a good work in me will bring it to completion.
Philippians 1:6

I’m afraid. He has not given me a Spirit of Fear.
2 Timothy 1:7

I might lose. Perhaps God will be with me.
I Samuel 14:6

I might get embarrassed. Consider Christ who laid it all on the line.
Philippians 2:5-11

Call to Action -- just to get you thinking and taking your next steps...

Who or what is your ‘giant’ these days?
Where are you in this story?
What ‘thought conditioners’ do you need to memorize these days?
What is God asking of you?
Are you willing to roll the dice and play to win?
What are you gonna do next?
Who do you need to recruit onto your team?
What is the ‘voice of truth’ saying to you about your Giant?

Teen Paintballing, Waterpalooza and Campout!

Hey guys!

I am inviting you all to go paintballing with the teens August 4, 2012. It will be the best time of your life if you come. There are 42 tickets that need to be filled, and it is only $25 dollars per person. The $25 dollars covers EVERYTHING; you get 500 paintballs, a gun, protective gear, and CO2.

Their website is http://www.paintballfun.com/, there you will find directions, A REQUIRED RELEASE WAIVER and any questions you may have about the place. It is in Indiana and 15 minutes north-west of Louisville. We are going to meet at the church at 9:00am and carpool. We are planning on staying there till approximately 4:00-4:30pm.

To sign up or if anyone has any questions, please text or call me at 502-758-0847. Again, EVERYONE is invited and we need to fill our spots. This is very inexpensive for paintballing and I hope you can come.

Remember to text me to reserve your spot!  Then, bring $25 and the paintball waiver to 4200 on Saturday at 9 AM.

Thank you,

Jared Jeseo

P.S. Also mark your calendar for Waterpalooza Aug 8th and Camp Out night at the Monnin’s Aug 10th – Aug 11th.  We are delaying (cancelling for now) the canoe trip we had planned for the 11th in favor of making time for a paintball trip!

Pray for Erin Guthrie

Erin and her family have been through a very challenging season over the past 3 weeks.  Larry Toles, her very good friend, had a fall at work that landed him in the hospital for the better part of two weeks and then almost as soon as he got released from the hospital she gets the news that her grandfather has passed away.  Let's figure out how to encourage her in this season.

peace,
Jeff

We're Tweaking Worship Start Times beginning on Sunday August 19 to 9:30 and 11 AM to make things even better ...

We've had an amazing summer at Phos Community Church and we hope you have had a great one as well. We want to maximize the Worship experience at Phos Community on Sundays and one way we can do that is by offering two great mirror image experiences each Sunday at 4200 like we started doing back in the spring of 2012. To make it easier for more of you to join us in the First Worship Experience we're gonna shift the start time to 9:30 beginning Sunday August 19. The second experience will happen at 11 AM. If you've been with us for any amount of time you'll know that the 11 AM service will never end by noon! So, if you really need to get to the restaurant by noon you'll want to shift to the first worship experience. We believe this will be better for families with children, for volunteers who serve on Sundays and will allow us to invite even more people to join the journey this fall at Phos Community Church.

Thanks for Taking the Ride with Us,
Jeff and the Team at PCC

The Inner Game -- Gettting Stronger in both your Inner & Outer Games….

This morning at Phos Community I talked about the importance of the 'inner game' in life.  Specifically I spoke about how Paul's Inner Game grew stronger even while his Outer Game languished in prison cell.  In 2 Corinthians 4 he gives us the secret of having our eyes fixed on the 'inner game' and of zeroing on the eternal unseen versus the temporary seen.  Good stuff to study and let sink in.

Just wanted to add a little spice to this line of thinking for my friends who are growing in all areas of life.  But, this word is especially for those who are pushing the limits to grow in your abilities.  Anytime you try to grow there will be suffering involved of some sort.  To get better we must challenge our existing preconceived notions of where our 'limits' really are.  We have to have an attitude of 'Mind Over Matter' as in, "If you don't mind, it don't matter!"

I just read an article in Bicycling Magazine called 'The Science of Suffering' in the August 2012 Issue.  I'd highly recommend that you get that article and devour it if you're aiming to take your Inner and Outer Game to a higher level in the season ahead.

peace,

The Ramp that Love Built …. another PCC Community Project ….

We've had an amazing weekend at Phos Community Church.  Baptized 5 today and heard incredible testimonies.  Our newly formed teen band rocked it out in worship and we had two teams out serving yesterday.  One in Henryville  doing Tornado Relief and one just a few miles from 4200, our base camp, building  a wheel-chair ramp.  We're just getting started guys.... the best is yet to come!  Let's play to win people to Jesus by serving, going, giving and loving -- at work, at home, at play and at 4200....let's lift Jesus up.

Way to Go Phos Studs!  Check out these photos from Robbie Mueller.

Proud to be the Pastor of this church.

Larry Toles Update

Hey Phos Family!

Larry Toles had a bad fall a few days ago and is having a slow, complicated recovery.  Right now he is in Baptist East in Louisville.  He is in ICU room 378.  Please keep him and Erin Guthrie in your prayers, here is an update I received from Erin last night:

We are at Baptist East in the ER getting ready to transfer Larry to the ICU for the evening. I brought him in with intense back pain and stumbling that was scaring me...turns out that he has swelling and more bleeding than was found on the first scan. They are now giving him anti-seizure medication, a steroid to reduce swelling, and a little morphine to help him rest.

Thanks!

Pray for Larry Toles and Erin Guthrie

Larry Toles had a fall at work the other day and hit his head. Details beyond that are fuzzy. He spent two days in the UK Med Center and overall he seems like he will be fine with time. He will be off work for several weeks. Pray them along.
