Collecting Items for Soldiers

This month we will be collecting items to send to one of our Phos family members and his men that are currently serving in Afghanistan. Our priority would be to collect enough funds to buy them 9 good electric razors. If you would like to donate just put a little extra in your tithe check and 12% of our total offerings for the day will go into our Missions Fund.  We will then pull out of there all of the finances we need to buy the razors. In addition we would like for families to bring in needed items like:

  • foot powder
  • hand sanitizer
  • eyedrops
  • protein powder
  • protein bars
  • little debbies
  • trail mix.

Collection will culminate tomorrow so make sure you bring your things with you in the morning.  We will then assess what we need and plan to put the packages together and write letters on September 30.  Please see Angela Lasseigne or Meredith if you would like to help in this endeavor.

You can email Meredith@PhosChurch.com with questions.

Thanks,

Meredith Lewis

One Way Ticket to Bitterness

If you wanna have a great relationship with anyone you love -- your spouse, your kids, God -- you'll need to put a little 'skin in the game'!  This may be helpful to you.
See you @ Worship over at 4200 this Sunday at 9:30 or 11 AM.

One Way Ticket to Bitterness
Do you find yourself overreacting to little irritations? Your spouse forgot the milk. Your child tracked mud on the new carpet, and you explode. There is a good chance that you are suffering from stored anger. You've held all of these hurts inside and now your stored anger is showing up in your behavior. In my book Anger, I talk about getting rid of this.

When is the last time someone deeply hurt you? How did you respond? Jesus gave clear instructions: When we are mistreated, we are to lovingly confront the person who hurt us and seek reconciliation.

One of the common problems I encounter in the counseling office is people who are eaten up with anger. In an effort to be good Christians, they've held their anger inside. Anger held inside leads to bitterness, hatred, and often depression.

If you have internalized your anger for a long time, it's time to release it to God. Tell God how much you have been hurt. Then, release the person and your anger to God. When you release people to God, you put them in good hands.

Do you have a long standing offense with someone? Don't sit around the rest of your life letting anger control your life. Go to the person and tell them that you would like to make things right.

If they are open, they will confess their wrong and you can forgive. If they are not, then ask God if there is anything else you need to do. Give that person and your hurt and anger to God. Pray for them, but don't allow their behavior to control your life. God wants you to be free to follow Him.

There is hope for all of us who live with anger. It begins with taking a look at your history. It's never too late to seek reconciliation. Jesus knows all about being mistreated. You can trust Him with your anger.

What's Your Love Language?

The political rhetoric is heating up. The campaign ads are more negative. And you're caught in the crossfire with your friends and family. On the next Building Relationships with Dr. Gary Chapman, can you honor God in both red and blue? Dr. Amy Black will join us to talk about handling those conversations at family gatherings that get a little too politically heated. Don't miss the conversation.

Parking lot greeters this Sunday

Hey Phos Family,

We need 3-4 people to jump in and help us out this Sunday for about 25 minutes before each service. The entrance to 4200 is all torn up because of some sewage work being done by the county, and it may be difficult for some of our visitors to find us. So, we want to post a couple of greeters at the entrance to the parking lot to make sure our visitors don't miss us. We'd like to have someone out there from about 9:10-9:35 a.m. for the first service folks and 10:10-11:05 for those coming to the second service. If you can help out, call Drew Nichter at (502) 295-4329 or email him at drew.nichter@gmail.com. Thanks guys!

Pray for Melissa Gowen's Dad who is in the E.R. at Norton and headed to ICU for several days ....

Melissa Gowen’s dad is having a medical emergency and is at Norton hospital near Costco.   He’s had protracted medical procedures over several years and was on Oxygen when his tank ran out this morning while in traffic.  He went with very low oxygen while Melissa tried to navigate around a traffic jam on I-71 to get him to the hospital.  His heart may have been affected by lack of oxygen.  He’ll be in ICU there for a few more days.  Please pray for Melissa and her mom and dad.  Melissa is new at PCC and could really use our support in the days ahead.

thanks,
Jeff

p.s.  also remember Lonnie and Jeana Platt as 'Red' Platt's visitation is later today from 4 to 8 PM and funeral tomorrow in Carrollton, Kentucky  [see the earlier post in the PhosNewsBlog for full details]
